Kristine dives into her February book club selection, “The Highly Sensitive Person” by Elaine Aron.
This month's book club pick is dedicated to all my sensitive people! If you haven't picked up “The Highly Sensitive Person”, now is the time to do it! It will forever change your life. Here’s how it shifted my perspective.
The word “sensitive” has always been used by others to describe me. I always thought it was because I would cry at the drop of a hat, or, the result of the fears that consumed me growing up. I wanted to understand better.
I’ve always had a hard time being in crowds or with people I don't know - but when I was working through most of my traumas in 2020 (which I think we all did - gosh, what a transformative year it was!) I learned that trauma actually makes you more sensitive. This is due to the hyper alertness in your nervous system. So basically, if you weren’t born with that energy, you can evolve to become very sensitive.
Throughout the years, my sensitivity has been shamed and misunderstood. I never really thought of it as anything special until I read this book by Elaine Aron. It was such an interesting read because it taught me how I can use my sensitivity as a superpower, while functioning better in this loud, loud world.
This book will give you data about HSP (Highly Sensitive People) gathered throughout Aron’s years of research and real life stories that will make you feel less alone. It also helps you navigate relationships better by knowing what you need to make the most out of life.
So if you get easily overwhelmed by the frantic energy in this world, “The Highly Sensitive Person” will help you live a more satisfying life. Take my word for it!
If you’ve already read this book, please let us know in the comments below. I’m dying to hear how it changed your life!
